At the first virtual summit of the new four-nation grouping, known as “I2U2,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with the presidents of the United States, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates today to discuss collaborative economic initiatives to strengthen cooperation in the area of trade and investment.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and President of the UAE Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will also attend the event, which is being hosted by US President Joe Biden while he is in West Asia through July 16.
The letters “I” and “U” in the grouping’s name represent India and Israel and the US and UAE, respectively.
The leaders will explore potential cooperative initiatives within the I2U2 framework as well as other areas of shared interest to expand the economic partnership in trade and investment in our respective regions and beyond, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Tuesday.
According to MEA, the I2U2 aims to promote cooperative investments in six areas that have been mutually agreed upon, including water, energy, transportation, space, health, and food security.
According to the statement, “it aims to mobilize private sector funding and skills to help upgrade the infrastructure, low carbon development paths for our sectors, enhance public health, and support the development of vital emerging and green technologies.”
The four countries’ foreign ministers met on October 18 of last year, during which the I2U2 grouping was first conceived. Each nation also routinely engages in interactions at the Sherpa level to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
The leaders will probably also talk about the world food and energy problems brought on by the conflict in Ukraine.
