The United Arab Emirates (UAE) renewed its commitment to support international efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen. Recently, Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, met with Hans Grundberg, United Nations (UN) Special Envoy for Yemen, to discuss the recent developments in the crisis in Yemen and the international efforts to find a peaceful solution to establish security and stability in the region.
During the meeting, Gargash also addressed the recent talks held by the international parties about Yemen. Recently, Grundberg and international parties discussed extending the truce in Yemen and reaching a permanent ceasefire, as well as encouraging relevant parties to return to the negotiating table and reach a peaceful settlement. His objective was to extend the armistice. According to Dr. Gargash, the UAE was in favor of international measures to preserve Yemen’s stability.
Dr. Gargash also reiterated the UAE’s role to support the efforts of the UN and the international community to ensure Yemen’s stability and end the suffering of the Yemeni people. He also talked about the efforts of all Yemeni parties and the international community to reach a ceasefire and lauded the UAE’s relevant role to find a peaceful solution to this matter.
The UAE has always been vocal to help the Yemeni people. The UAE has repeatedly called on the international community to support adherence to the truce to establish peace in Yemen. Many Yemenis are dependent on aid for survival. The UAE has also helped Yemen by providing them with financial assistance.
Earlier, the UAE also attempted to mediate to establish peace in Yemen. In August, the United States special envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, traveled to the UAE to talk about an UN-mediated truce in Yemen. In July, the UAE held a virtual meeting with the US to discuss the situation in Yemen.
During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the UAE sent around 122 tons of medical supplies to Yemen. The UAE was one of the largest international contributors to Yemen’s Covid-19 response.
